HISTORICAL MONUMENTS
| AMENANO FOUNTAIN | | | The fountain was building by sculptor Tito Angelini in 1867. It owes its name to the underground river it takes the water from.
The jet creates a particular effect, and for this it was nicknamed "the fountain of the blanket-like water". |
| CATANIA'S DUOMO | | | The Duomo is one of Catania's grandest sights. The facade dates from the Baroque rebuilding of the town, although some of the earlier church did survive the earthquake.
In the centre is a much-photographed eighteenth-century lava statue of an elephant, supporting an Egyptian obelisk. It’s a symbol of the city. | MUSEUMS
| EMILIO GRECO MUSEUM | | | | | The museum was inaugurated in 1994 in Bellini's house. It contains the entire graphic collection of the artists from Catania, amounting to about 150 works exhibited following a chronological order. |
| HOUSE OF GIOVANNI VERGA | | | The Sicilian writer Verga spent the last years of his life in Catania.
Today the building is the seat of the Regional Museum. The original rooms are still as they were before. The library, which can still be used on request, contains about 2000 books of the writer. | EXCURSIONS
| MOUNT ETNA | | | Sicily's greatest natural attraction is also its highest mountain: Mount Etna, at 10,990 feet, is the most active volcano in Europe and the oldest recorded active volcano in the world. |
| VILLA BELLINI | | | Villa Bellini is a public garden of Catania and its inhabitants, once known as "the labyrinth".
It was the property of the aristocratic Biscari family until mid-19th century and it was opened to the public after many renovation works that further embellished it. | |
